196 – Devotional Felicity through Contemplation 02 I Ma Gurupriya

509 Views | 3 months ago

Lecture based on Sreemad Bhagavatham during Jamshedpur Jnana Yajna 2013. This talk was held on 04 March 2013.

In this Satsang, Ma explains what the attitude of a devotee should be. Narrating the story of Akrura in Srimad Bhagavatam, she says that a devotee must have a firm understanding that the body, mind, intelligence, and all organs are enlivened by the indweller Lord. The human birth is meant only to realize him and feel his presence always.

Kamsa, knowing that Krishna is born to kill him, makes plans to bring Krishna to Mathura and kill him. Accordingly, he sends Akrura (his minister) to Vrindavan to invite and bring Krishna. Having heard the exploits of Krishna, Akrura had developed an unswerving love and devotion for him.

Sitting in his chariot on his way to Vrindavan, Akrura’s mind is filled with thoughts of Sri Krishna. He feels that he must have done great austerity and acts of charity because of which he is going to have the blessed opportunity of meeting his Lord. By the mere sight of Krishna, all the inauspiciousness would be lost and the purpose of birth would be fulfilled.

He imagines the physical form of Sri Krishna and feels that it is the most beautiful form imaginable in the entire world. He imagines himself prostrating at Krishna’s feet which can take away all ignorance from the hearts of all seekers. He blissfully imagines that when he falls at the feet of the Lord, he would pick him up and put both his hands on the head. These are the hands which bestow fearless on all creatures and takes away all the worldliness. He feels that by the Lord’s touch and embrace, his whole being would be purified and all bondage would dissolve.

Srimad Bhagavatam beautifully and poetically narrates how Akrura’s mind had become completely dissolved in the Lord. By contemplating on the Lord, he became united with the Lord, whom he had not met. Through divine chanting and explanations, Ma takes us along on the journey to Vrindavan to meet Krishna.
