In this Satsang, Swamiji discusses Upasana, as discussed in Taittiriya Upanishad. Upasana is where the mind is constantly holding on to some object or concept as a support. The purpose of Upasana is to make the mind one-pointed, finally leading to identity with the object of contemplation. The finale of Upasana is that one gets absorbed in the object of contemplation.

As opposed to Upasana using an external symbol as a support, by contemplation on the Self, a seeker’s buddhi becomes enlightened and ignorance is removed. The Knowledge bestows realization of freedom and immortality. The seeker realizes the immortal, brilliant presence within. The contemplation of the Self leads to experience of Brahman. But this is also an experience, it is time-dependent. True knowledge is attained only through Vichara.

The Upanishad speaks about contemplation of manifest Brahman in Cosmic and individual dimensions (In groups of five), where the same Brahman is contemplated in all the external and internal objects in individual as well as cosmic dimensions, thereby, unifying everything in Brahman—the Ultimate Truth.

The Adhibhuta (external/Cosmic) Paankta constitutes - Loka Paankta (earth, heavens, luminous objects, all directions, and all secondary directions), Devata Paankta (Fire, Air, Sun, Moon and starts), and Bhuta Paankta (water, all medicinal herbs, all kinds of plants, space and Atma). The Adhyaatma Paankta includes - Prana Paankta (Prana, Vyana, Apana, Upada, Samana), Indriya Paankta (eyes, ears, mind, speech, skin), Dhaatu Paankta (Skin, flesh, veins and nerves, bones, marrow).

The five-fold groups of both the cosmic and the individual dimensions of manifest Brahman are to be contemplated upon. These encompass everything in creation. One combination of five inspires the other five.

Swamiji will be discussing 'Voice of Upanishads'. The Global Satsang will be based on Taittiriya Upanishad. | Live Satsangs with Spiritual Masters on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at 8 pm IST/10:30 am EDT/ 10:30 pm MST.
