This is the second day of the 3-day discourse series based on the Bhagavad Gita, conducted by Swamiji in Malaysia in 2015. He discusses how we can live life with a cheerful and confident mind and a perceptive and sharp intelligence. How we can equip and empower the mind and intelligence so that we will be able to face all of life’s challenges in a harmonious manner.
When Arjuna became grief-stricken in the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Krishna’s mission was to activate the intelligence of Arjuna. He had to make the grieving Arjuna stop grieving and begin introspecting. He discusses not only Arjuna’s grief but the grief of the human mind which can only be allayed by proper introspection. This is the reason why Bhagavad Gita is ever-relevant for the human in understanding his own inner personality.
Krishna says that wise people will not grieve over either the dead or the living. By truthful introspection, they will understand the truth about life and death. They will know that the inner Presence is ever-present. This body-different inner presence can only be accessed by the intelligence through a process of introspection and enquiry. We must employ the intelligence and know our own true identity that is unborn and immortal. Then why do we fear death? Krishna says that man fears death because he is deluded. Our body is undergoing transformation and transition right from birth. Death is also a natural transition.
Krishna gives us a formula to deal with all the challenges and stress in life. Life is interactional. All interactions (domestic, social or work-related) will only result in Sukha (happiness) or duhkha (misery). These mental reactions will occur inevitably. One must understand this through a process of introspection. The understanding and application of the formula of equanimity will help one to live a wholesome, joyous and stress-free life.
