Nutan Swamiji's session two, during the Bhagavad Gita Retreat conducted in Irvine, California during the USA Jnana Yajna 2024.

Location: Fairfield Inn & Suites Marriott Tustin Orange County, Newport Ave, Tustin, CA 92780

Date: 20 June 2024

In this session, Swamiji emphasizes that the Bhagavad Gita is Upanishadic knowledge presented in a revolutionary manner. It is based on the premise that interactions are not a hindrance to spiritual progress, rather they must be accepted as instruments for liberation. Interactions highlight our negative traits and give us an opportunity to remove them. In and through actions and interactions, a seeker can attain the spiritual goal.

Bhagavad Gita wants us to divinize our whole life, not an hour or two of meditation and other practices. In every thought, action and interaction, the seeker must connect with the Self and keep the goal of attaining the self in sight. The goal of meditation must become the same as the goal of interactions. By this orientation, the seeker will become more efficient and effective and his vision will become wholesome.

Bhagavad Gita says that human beings are born with two problems: 1) Abhaava Bodha (lack or insufficiency), because of which they are always looking for happiness from external objects 2) Delusion, because of which they feel that something from the world will make them permanently happy and fulfilled. Because of lack of Vichara (introspection), they do not understand that joy is always welling forth within. Spiritual sadhana is to shift our identity from the changeful world to the non-changing substratum and get established in it.

Analyzing the human personality, Sri Krishna says that senses are superior to the objects; mind is superior to the senses; intelligence is superior to the mind and the Soul is still superior. Normally the senses are slave to the world objects. Following the senses, the mind and intelligence also become slave to the world. Bhagavad Gita suggests that the buddhi must be anchored in the Self. Such a pure buddhi will guide the mind and the mind will direct the senses. Such a person becomes a master of the world. Knowing the non-changing substratum within, a seeker must win over the enemy in the form of desires.

Replying to questions, Swamiji speaks about the spiritual goal, the sadhana to attain the goal and the paramount importance of introspection in the spiritual path.
