In this Satsang, Ma discusses ‘Chitta Prasadah’--placidity of the mind. When the mind becomes calm and placid, and when Sattva guna is fully developed, then Atma is realized. How to grow in Sattva guna? For the Sattva guna to be more and more dominant in the personality, one must grow divine qualities and remove all negative traits and qualities.

In the 16th chapter, Bhagavad Gita speaks about the divine qualities to be cultivated. Fearlessness, purity of the being, abidance in spiritual wisdom, charity, sensory regulation, dedication to the Self, study of scriptures, austerity and straightforwardness are some of the qualities a seeker is urged to cultivate.

In life, everything is associated with fear. Fearlessness can be had only when one is steady in the knowledge that: ‘I am the Self.’ When there is no differential notion, when there is an understanding that there is only One, then there is no cause for fear. Subhashitam says that there may be many valuable gifts that we can give to people, like gold, cows, wealth, food etc. But the greatest gift is the gift of fearlessness, which a Guru gives to his disciple.

The quality of ‘Sattva Samshuddhih’ (wholesome purity) constitutes the core of spiritual seeking. The seeker must purify the inner personality—the mind, intelligence and ego. Purity of the mind is becoming free of ego, desires, expectations, possessiveness and dwelling in the thoughts of the Self (by removing all differential vision). It is also developing more and more love for God/Self, through sadhana.

Ma emphasizes that a seeker must assess himself constantly to see whether there are emotional and attitudinal impurities in his being. He must remain alert, attentive, and introspective in practicing purity of attitude and emotions.
