In this Satsang, Swamiji continues the profound, in-depth exposition of the verses of Taittiriya Upanishad. The Upanishad speaks about Pranava Upasana or Omkara Upasana, for the attainment of the ultimate goal of life. But it does not neglect to mention the moral codes and behavioural
qualities and practices that a seeker must practice. If these disciplines are neglected by a seeker, the fulfillment of realization will always elude him.

The Upanishad connects all religious and spiritual practices with ‘Svaadhyaya’ and ‘Pravachana’. ‘Svaadhyaya’ means the study of scriptures. But it must also be understood as: ‘adhyayana (study) about our own Self.’ One must study the scriptures, understanding the deeper meaning, by remaining under the tutelage of the Guru. ‘Pravachana’ literally means teaching or lecturing.’ But it means that a seeker must dive deep into the purport of the words, reflect on them, and link them to his own life. It is a process of introspection and applying the knowledge in one’s own life.

In the practice of Truthfulness (Rtam and Satyam), austerity (Tapas), sensory restraint (Dama) and mental restraint and sublimation (Sama), a seeker must never neglect Svaadhyaya and Pravachana. They must run parallelly with all practices in the seeker’s life. In the maintenance and preservation of the ceremonial fires and the fire offerings, the performer must not lose the link to Svaadhyaya and Pravachana. In begetting children, in the procreation process, ensuring that the lineage grows, one must not neglect the practice of Svaadhyaya and Pravachana.

The Upanishad states that Rishis Raathitara was pursuing and emphasizing the practice of Satya (Truthfulness); Rishi Paurushishtih emphasized that Tapas (austerity) is the most important Sadhana for a seeker; Rishi Maudgalya laid great emphasis on the practice of Svaadhyaya and Pravachana. If one pursues Svaadhyaya and Pravachana, that itself is an austerity. The three Rishis emphasized different aspects of the same Sadhana.

Swamiji will be discussing 'Voice of Upanishads'. The Global Satsang will be based on Taittiriya Upanishad. | Live Satsangs with Spiritual Masters on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at 8 pm IST/10:30 am EDT/ 10:30 pm MST.
