In this Global Satsang, Swamiji continues to discuss the 11 th Anuvaka of the Taittiriya Upanishad, where the teacher is giving parting instructions and disciplines to the students, following which they can lead a happy and fulfilled life. These instructions may seem basic and simple, but deep introspection is required to understand them and apply them in life.
After exhorting the students to follow truth and dharma in life, the Guru urges them to seek the company of noble, knowledgeable people in the society and honour them. Whenever the mind and intelligence are gripped by indecision, doubts, the seeker must approach the wise people and seek answers.
How to identify wise people? Wise people are those who have studied and understood the essence of the scriptures. They are those who are never misguided by others; they are guided by their own self within. They are kind-hearted, and live a righteous life. A seeker must try and emulate the behaviour and attitude of such wise people. One may come across people of ill-repute, people who have committed sinful deeds. What should be one’s attitude towards them? In such cases also, a sadhaka must follow the actions and behaviour of the wise, scholarly, and knowledgeable people.
The teacher says that, all that has been imparted by him are the instructions, disciplines of the shastras, of the ancient Rishis. One must introspect on them deeply and follow them. This must become the constant Upasana (worship) of the seeker.
The teacher declares that in imparting education, truth and dharma have been followed. Whatever was promised in the beginning, has not been violated; It has been sincerely implemented. He also humbly and gratefully acknowledges that the truth has protected the students and himself (the teacher).
Swamiji begins the shanti Mantra of the next chapter (Brahmanandavalli), which speaks about the Guru-shishya relationship. Through his spiritual power, the teacher enlivens the Truth in the student. The Guru-shishya bond is one of love, faith and affection of the Guru, and faith, humility, and love of
the disciple.
