Ma Gurupriya ji's reflections on Poojya Swamiji's morning messages (Prabhata Rashmih)
Date: 07 December 2024
Venue: Vijnana Bhavan, Narayanashrama Tapovanam
In this Satsang, Ma elaborates on a chapter from Swamiji’s book (‘Prabhata Rashmih’-Vol 1) titled ‘Self-Everywhere’. In this talk, Swamiji emphasizes the importance of interactional sadhana as an essential complement to scriptural studies and meditation.
Normally, our mind differentiates between spiritual & non-spiritual, Self & non-self-etc. Interactional Sadhana (purifying the personality through all activities) is very effective in liberating the mind from the differential vision (bheda buddhi). The spiritual pursuit does not involve meditation and scriptural studies alone. The main purpose of Sadhana is to remove the differential notions from the mind.
The same Self is manifest in everything, everywhere in the world. If a seeker gets joy in meditational absorption, he must equally get joy from the world. One is always interacting with people, places, things and situations in life. During these interactional hours, there must be a constant note of sublimity in the seeker.
The human mind is prone to likes & dislikes and preference & prejudices. It categorizes things as pleasant (and yearns for them) and unpleasant (withdraws from them). Whenever something happens which is against one’s wishes, the mind becomes resentful. How to overcome the resentment? Spiritual sublimation lies in cheerfully doing what one would not like to do and being prepared not to do what one would like to do.
The subjective resultants of all interactional experiences are Sukha and Duhkha. When we have sukha, we feel happy and blessed, but when we have duhkha, we complain. The aim is to understand that it is the same Self in sukha, as well as in duhkha. A seeker must undergo both sukha and duhkha, understanding that they both are expressions of the same Self. One must find the Self in and through sukha-duhkhas, as sukha and duhkha. The Yogi who perceives the same Self everywhere, whether it is a pleasant or an unpleasant situation, is considered to be the best Yogi.
A seeker must constantly introspect that: “I am the Self, not the body.” An individual never forgets his own name, family, profession etc.; it is imprinted in the mind, as his identity. Over this identity, a new identity (I am the Self) must be imprinted, says Ma.
