In this Satsang, Swamiji begins the second chapter of Taittiriya Upanishad- Brahmananda Valli.

This chapter begins with the Shanti Patha, which is a prayer for both the Guru and the shishya. In the Brahma Vidya Sadhana, the Guru-shishya relationship plays a very important role. Brahma Vidya is a living knowledge transferred by the Guru to the disciple. If either the Guru or the shishya were not there, Brahma Vidya would not have been handed down to the next generation. So, the Guru-shishya relationship is paramount in the preservation of Brahma Vidya. The Guru must be fully empowered to impart the supreme knowledge and the pupil must be humble and receptive to receive the knowledge.

The Shanti Patha is a Self-addressed prayer, which says:

May we both (Teacher and student) be protected: Real protection is had only when one is anchored in the consciousness.

May we both be nourished: By the embrace of the Truth, we should be able to revel in the internal Ananda, which is independent of all external objects and attainments. This is the ultimate nourishment.

May we do everything with Veerya (courage): Real courage is had only when one is anchored in the self.

Whatever is learnt, it should become a living knowledge: The knowledge must become a first-hand knowledge and discovery.

May we have no intolerance or hatred between us: The Guru-shishya relationship must be harmonious. Swamiji says that this is a caution to all Brahma Vidya aspirants. One should be alert and attentive not to get caught in the grip of ego, pride, jealousy, desires etc. The dedication must be only to the Supreme goal of life.

Shlokas chanted in the Satsang:
