In this Satsang, Swamiji gives an in-depth explanation of the second mantra of Brahmanananda Valli, of Taittiriya Upanishad.

In this mantra, the Upanishad gives Brahma Vidya (Supreme Knowledge) in a nutshell. ‘Brahmavid Aapnoti Param’—The knower of Brahman attains the Supreme. Brahman can be known only as a direct perception, knowledge. In this knowledge, at the final level, the knower is not different from the knowledge. This knowledge is revealed when there is even no subject-object division, where only the Consciousness exists.

Brahman is represented by three aspects—Satyam (Truth), Jnanam (Knowledge) and Anantam (Infinitude). It is Satyam, the unchanging, eternal Truth. In creation, all objects are ephemeral, transitory, and changeful. But the Consciousness transcends time and space and is the substratum of the whole changeful creation.

It is the Jnanam (knowledge) which transcends subject-object duality, where the knower and the known are fused. The Consciousness can never be known as something different from oneself. The sentience is known when a seeker surrenders all effortfulness. It is Anantam, infinite, undivided, non-fragmented. When one knows the Consciousness, one merges in the infinite.

How to know Brahman, where to look for it? The Upanishad says that it is infinite, and it can be experienced within—as the supreme space hidden in the cave of the heart and the intelligence. Once Brahman is realized, what happens to the individual? When one realizes Brahman, he becomes fulfilled. All his desires are attained and he starts vibrating in tune with Brahman. He becomes harmonious with the entire creation.

Shlokas Chanted in the Satsang:

2:44 - ॐ सह नाववतु । सह नौ भुनक्तु…. brahmānandavallī 1.1
4:04 - ॐ ब्रह्मविदाप्नोति परम् । तदेषाऽभ्युक्ता… brahmānandavallī 1.2

Swamiji will be discussing 'Voice of Upanishads'. The Global Satsang will be based on Taittiriya Upanishad. | Live Satsangs with Spiritual Masters on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at 8 pm IST/10:30 am EDT/ 10:30 pm MST.
