This video is a talk given by Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha at the ‘Prakash Mehrotra Memorial Lecture’ in New Delhi.
In this exposition, Poojya Swamiji explains the indelible link between spirituality and decision making. Spirituality is the science of refinement of the mind, intelligence, and ego. As decision making itself is a product of these mental processes, there is no doubt that the practice of spirituality underlies enlightened and proper decisions.
Poor decisions often arise from psychological constrictions in our mind such as selfishness and polarization of likes/ dislikes. Such constrictions often subdue impartial intelligence leading to biased and flawed decisions. Spirituality enables us to sublimate such constrictions of the mind and give free reign to the intelligence.
The two epics: Ramayana & Mahabharata offer several examples of enlightened decision making. The lives of Rama, Krishna, Vyasa, and Bheeshma offer shining examples of unclouded decision making. They sacrificed personal and familial considerations and adopted a universal dimension.
